Electromagnetism and communication in Latvia before the arrival of the internet
This podcasts series is inspired by the exhibition You’ve got 1243 Unread Messages, The Last Generation Before the Internet. Their Lives, presented by the Latvian Center of Contemporary Art. A display that explained to us that there were networks prior to the arrival of internet and that they operated independently of seemingly free international postal service where Mail Art was implicitly established. Latvian culture constitutes an important starting point. It is filled with communication through networks: from memory books to photo albums whose contents changed as they passed from one person to the next, or, of course, all kinds of non-official text and sound publications that were self-published and self-distributed.
Midcasting. Experiments in Radio is a project mounted to explore specific spaces in the field of sound which revolve around the Midstream encounters, a network formed by the Museo Reina Sofía, the european institute for progressive cultural policies (eipcp) and the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA), Latvia.
